I'm glad that many of you have enjoyed reading the biographies of some of
those involved in the Yiddish theatre in Czernowitz.

You can also read about Sevilla Pastor (I believe the wife of Muniu Pastor)
who also was involved in the Yiddish theatre and see her photo at
www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/yt/lex/S/sevilla.htm. She is identified only
as "Sevilla" in Zylbercweig's Lexicon.

Here is what her 1934 (V.2) biography says:

"Sevilla was born on 25 January 1906 in Iasi, Romania. Her parents were the
actors Morits and Roza Zigler. She finished an eight-class folks-shul in
Vienna and learned privately with Jacob Mestel (a fine Yiddish actor-ed.) In
1920 for the first time she performed in her parents' troupe in the chorus
in Czernowitz. Three months later she debuted as "Yitzhak" in Goldfaden's
"The Sacrifice of Isaac". After two years in the chorus, she had the
opportunity to act in episodic roles, then crossing over to larger roles,
debuting as "Tsipke Feyer". Since then, Sevilla has continued as the chief
soubrette in the Zigler troupe, in which she has acted until today, together
with her husband M. Pastor."

There are, of course, many mentions of those found within the Lexicon having
once acted in Czernowitz, whether with the Akselrad troupe or with other
troupes, etc., but I haven't made a list of such instances and won't. Once I
announce all of these hundreds of translations, you'll be free to do lookups
of whichever person you wish.

I believe in the past I posted to the List links to the Zigler bios (I chose
the spelling variation of Siegler in these instances), but here they are
again:

If anyone has more theatre programs from Czernowitz or its surrounds, please
scan them and e-mail them to me if and when you can find the time.
Thank you.

Regards,
Steven Lasky
