Hi to everyone-especially those interested in the condition of Jewish cemetery in Chernivtzi
Recently I talked with the local catholic priest from Chernivtzi and he
was also complaining on the situation of Christian part of the Reserve. He
sad about plenty of situation when the tombstones were stolen or devastated
there. He also send some letters to the mayor of Chernivtzi and governor of
Bukovina region to change this situation. As for him the biggest pressure
need to be put on the local government.
Also in the end of September a group of specialist from Poland will come and have a look on cemetery. They are called "Magurycz Association". It is an NGO specialized in restoring the cemeteries. They were awarded several ti
mes for their work and it looks like that they are the best experts on rest
oration in Poland. They are very specific because they work with traditional methods -so the same as people used to 100 years ago while creating the tombstones. The things which they are doing are: fixing the tombstones and conservation of old macevas.
We will talk about the possibility of future cooperation

If you have any suggestion what you would like them to have look at-please
contact me.
