The entry of the Soviets in 1940 ,June 28.
A day to remember.
A change in our lives .
Oh, how great was our joy by meeting our liberators,
All jewish youngsters of leftist organization were overjoyed.
But it was a spontaneous reception and the Mosfilm camera
team had not arrived yet.
Soon some army politruks ( army politic attache) started driving
through the streets
calling out the population ,distributing flowers and rehearsing a
welcome for the camera with flower throwing and many smiles..
They reinacted a second take-over of Czernowitz, for the news movie.
Beautiful girls were first row , giving flowers to Soviet soldiers
and being embraced in return.
The politruk would pay out on the spot.
That day we also learned the two russian words essential for survival:
"Zavtra " - tomorrow and "Budyet"- there will be.
When asked when is food ,water , power will be back the answer was
always :"Zavtra budyet".
New times arrived.

Czernowitzers...
For all of you, who haven't visited the exhibition "Cession of Bessarabia,
North of Bucovina and Herta Region, June 26 - 28, 1940 - Between
Powerlessness and Irresponsability - A Romanian Perspective" yet, I've
excerpted a 00:36 min. sequence, displaying the Soviet troops advancing to
Czernowitz on June 28, 1940, online available at our Ehpes.com Blog:
http://ehpes.com/blog1/2011/09/14/czernowitz-on-june-28-1940-in-quick-motion/
The complete exhibition, including the uncut movie (and more), is still
available at:
http://hauster.blogspot.com/2011/08/romania-1939-bukovina-bessarabia-herta.html
Any of your - or my - ancestors among the crowd, welcoming the Soviet
troops?
