Czernowitzers (and Radautzers)...
Many of you know Ruth Ellen Gruber, the author of the award-winning blog
Jewish Heritage Travel - http://jewish-heritage-travel.blogspot.com/
and many outstanding books and publications, as for example
National Geographic Jewish Heritage Travel: A Guide to Eastern Europe.
Ruth's ancestors came from Radautz and the Bukovina and she visited several times this region, partially accompanied by our friend, the late Dorin Fränkel.
Today, I'm more than pleased to inform you, that Ruth Ellen Gruber was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit, one of Poland's highest honors awarded to foreigners, by President Bronislaw Komorowski on September 23, 2011 at a ceremony at the Polish Consulate in New York for her coverage of the Polish bid for democracy, as well as her more recent work furthering Polish-Jewish understanding.
Congratulations, Ruth, it's well-deserved, amazing and an honor to have you at our side as a member of our small, but sophisticated Bukovinian comminity!
