The recipe will no doubt be added to the cookery book...but it is a pity the
accompanying story about Czernowitz is inaccurate. Transnistria was bad
enough, Auschwitz would have been far worse. Cornel

I made this for Rosh Hashanah. I used the saffron variation, half with
golden raisins, half plain. It was wonderful! And so nice to make a
recipe that is part of my heritage.
I guess this is as good a time as any to introduce myself. I am Laura
Munzer. I am 54, an attorney, widowed, and live in NJ. My maternal
grandparents, Siegfried Gruen (Grunberg) and Clara Lehr, were from
Czernowitz. They emigrated to the US in 1930. Grandpa was a part time
Cantor, and became the Cantor at Grossinger's Hotel in the Catskills.
I am enjoying this list and learning more about where my family came from.
