I knew Scheine quite well during my years in Curacao. Esti was my very good
friend, we spent days together - also on the island - and during a visit in
San Diego, I was glad to meet Esti's daughter, Linda.
Esti died much too soon!

Subject: Re: [Cz-L] List of those on early 1930s Cernauti evening revues,
etc.
Scheine Fuhrmann Eisenfeld was my maternal grandmother. My mother
recalled their home being a hub of activity for the artistic
community.
My mother, Esti Eisenfeld, told me many stories about her childhood
and most especially her mother, Scheine. One of my mother’s earliest
memories was of her mother doing cartwheels around their dining room
table. She sang, danced and entertained. She put on and directed
shows. She usually slept till noon and then met her friends at a
coffee house. My mother recalled watching rehearsals in her home and
seeing the set designers build small scale sets on her kitchen table.
She also wrote poetry and later a book that we’ve discussed before on
this list.
The story my mother told about her mother, Scheine was also my
mother’s most embarrassing moment. Following the shipwreck of the
Viitorul, my mother and her family were taken to Nicosia, Cyprus. One
evening the survivors put on a show, led my Scheine. She danced on
the stage and the elastic waistband broke and her panties fell to the
ground. Schiene picked up the panties and continued to dance while
waving the panties for everyone to see, a mortifying experience for 12
year old Esti.
