[Cz-L] Lucca's passing

I, too, would like to send my condolences to her family. Several years
ago I had the great pleasure of spending an afternoon with Lucca and her
daughter when she visited her La Jolla, California, family. Lucca and I
had been in touch by e-mail, and I was delighted that she agreed to have
lunch and to attend a summer music festival "open rehearsal" with me --
an experience we both thoroughly enjoyed. I found that in person Lucca
was even more colorful and ebullient than the wonderful self she
projected in her weekly "Towers" column --- so warm, so young in spirit,
in turns serious when talking about her Czernowitz history and bubbling
with laughter at other memories of her later life. Lucca had such an
easy manner that it felt like I'd known her for a long time. In the same
way, her articles always depicted human nature with both insight and
humor. I'm glad I kept some of them that "spoke to me" as I'll miss
knowing her through those weekly visitations. Perhaps the Cz-L could
keep some of her pieces in our archives, so that we may hear Lucca's
wise and warm voice even into the future.
