Yes, sorry I missed the earlier discussion. During a busy time a month
or so ago, I shifted list mail into a separate folder, did not see that
thread until you mentioned it now.
There was a lot of speculation about Khazar origins (some of it quite
fanciful, e.g. claiming that this was why Galician Jews were more
creative and interested in the arts than, say, the coldly rational
Litvaks; stories about red hair, etc. etc.). But now, as earlier posts
also said, we are starting to get good archaeological and genetic
evidence about the Khazars if not their ultimate influence on the Jewish
population.
Again, happy to add more if useful.
