We made Aliyah from Romania, April 1, 1951, I got of the ship Transylvania in Haifa wearing Pumphosen.
An Israeli kid looked at me and called me a "Palit" (refugee)

I knew them also by the name Pumphosen, as my parents called them.=A0And I =
remember wearing them in Paris in the early fifties=A0 (of course, France a=
s compared to Canada was certainly already old-fashioned...), but in French=
they were called pantalon de golf. By the way, Tintin (the famous hero of =
the cartoons by Herg=E9; see also=A0Spielberg's recent movie) wears those k=
nickerbokers in almost all of his adventures.
