[Cz-L] food for the soul

Dear Czernowitzer,
To all those who have not had the privilege to hear about Norman Manea´s
book " THE RETURN OF THE HOOLIGAN" (published 2003), I hereby would like
to recommend reading it.
Norman Manea , born 1936 in Moldova/Bukovina, a Jew, deported 1941 to
Transnistria, repatriated 1945, emigrated to US in 1988.
Manea is one of the most known writers from this corner of Eastern Europe,
between the occident and the orient. The " Intoarcerea huliganului" is a
very unusual personal memoir . Has a very rich language, very intense
descriptions of people, places and situations. It is a book written by a
bleeding hearth, by an emigrant from a world no more with us other then in
our memoires.
The writer is not really satisfied with all the imitations provided in the
west, all very far away from the original, a world impossible to
reconstruct.
Reading this book , although in a Swedish translation published last week,
was a real privilege. I imagine that in Rumanian it would have a deeper
effect.
