Hello.

My name is Moshe Reder.

Both my parents were from Czernowitz.

My father Abraham ( " Bubi" ) was born in 1918. My mother Kreindel (
maiden name Friedman) was born in 1920.

Both families ( Reder and Friedman) were very poor.

I guess this this entitles them to the label of " non-bribers" and,
consequently, unable to get a permit to stay in Czernowitz via Popovic.

My father had 4 sisters and one brother. His parents ( my grand parents)
and siblings apparently were sent to Transnistria. I say " apparently",
because I was never able to find

any factual information

My father, being young, was saved because he was drafted into the Red Army
(Siberia, etc.). When he returned from the war, he was told that his
family did not survive.

My mother and 2 of her sisters survived Bershad in Transnistria. Her
parents ( and my grand parents, the Friedmans) plus a brother were not so
lucky.

I grew up hearing about Czernowitz on a daily basis from my parents.
Stories of their daily lives, the very vibrant and rich cultural
environment. And about their homes.

Much later, after both my parentst died, I am sorry to say, I did some
research ( Holocaust museums, Internet, watched Volker Koep's movies,
paid

much attention to the Czernowitz list - I have been a member for many
years). I am sure that I did not exhausted the ;possibilities of
what I can research. However, given the limitations of time - I still

work full time - I feel that I did a fair amount of work do find out
about my family in Czernowitz. Unfortunately, so far I was unable to
find any document or any witness that can testify that he/she knew
any member of my Reder family ( or Friedman, but since I know more about
the death of the Friedmans, in a way my quest for the Reders takes
precedent).

I sent an email in 2007 to this group. I believe that I had sent
another a few years earlier as well. I received one or two answers
from people that are doing " genealogy " research....

I am sorry if I sounds bitter, but I am not in a " genealogy "
mood.... At least, not yet. I just want to know how my entire family
died ( where ?). Or perhaps among the survivors in this CZ - distribution

group there is someone that recalls Moses and/or Toni Reder ( my
grandmother's maiden name was Gelles). Moses ( I am named after him)
used to have a small business

of travel trunks. The name of my uncle is Sami ( Samuel) Reder. My
aunts' names are: Rosa, Sali, Hencia and Ema.

In summary, I am not planning to write a book about Czernowitz. I am
not planning to find my family tree. And, unfortunately, I can not
contribute to a cookbook ( I am sure that my mother, if she were alive,

would have a lot to add since she was a wonderful cook and very
proud of her recipes).

I just want to pass to my children the little that I could find about
the Reders in Czernowitz. Perhaps the year that they died. The name
of he place. *Anything. *

So, if you have any* real information*, please share it with me. My
email is moshe.reder_at_gmail.com

Otherwise, I am afraid that I will have to continue to be of that "
Silence majority". I just do not feel that I have too much to contribute
at this point.

Thank you.
