Alex....With DNA studies and chromosomal analysis you can trace ancestry. If
you find ancient teeth in a grave you can very specifically tell where that
person grew up.No way can you have ancestry that is not traceable with
modern analytical methods. For one example...every single male named
Cohen,Kohn or any of the variations on the theme, from anywhere in the
world, has a common marker which is believed to go back to Aharon Hacohen, the
first High Priest. It would be absolutely wonderful if we had a very very
rich member who could sponsor the DNA etc testing of the list!! Still..one
can dream!! Cornel

Dear all,
Origin and DNA relationship are not exactly the same.
As I understood it is theoretically possible to not inherit any DNA parts
from one of yours grand parents, even from two of them.
If you go many generations back it is quite possible that you have a real
ancestor which did not pass any DNA information to you.
It is also possible that some of your ancestors didn't pass any particular
DNA information to you regarding skin color, face shape, etc.
Statistically you can trace origins by DNA, individuals may have attributes
which could mislead to wrong conclusions.
Language is usually "inherited" from the mother. In the somehow mixed
environment in eastern Europe Yiddish prevailed.
It originated in Rhineland and evolved to the present language mainly in
Poland, yes in the Polish state of the 14th-18th centuries.
The Ashkenasi population in Poland grew rapidly in this time to more than
the 50-fold of it's original numbers.
It may also have included Sephardi and oriental admixtures.
