Hi Bernie,

have you any evidences that both were born in the Bukowina?
The second half of the XIX century is rather known as the time when
many Jews moved TO Bukowina, not the opposite direction.
In this period Jews enjoyed Austrian citizenship, could be elected and
could by property virtually in every place, etc., while in Czarist Russia,
to which Podolia (with Makhnovka and Samgorodoc) belonged Jews were oppressed,
could not settle where they wanted, at the beginning were not allowed to study, etc.
For me it is hard to imagine that Jews moved from Bukowina to Podolia ...
