My late father said a little bit about stories he heard regarding the
town of Lipcani, where he lived until he moved to Czernowitz at the age
of 2 1/2. He said the streets were not paved (in the early 1920's and
before) so they would be get very muddy when it rained a lot. He had
heard that there were people who would carry more wealthy people across
the street for a fee in Lipcani . . .
