Edgar wherever you go, you bring people hope and happiness. They know,
the talented young men , the professors, that Czernowitz is a special
place, for them and around the world. How true it is, is that you and
many people on this group make it important, warm, charming. It should
be one of the better places in Ukraine, where can find some Jewish
flavored beauty that amazingly, even without the critical mass of Jewish
population, they want to conserve it.

I related your story with Putin visit to Israel, which was a mental
shift for many of us, yet a pleasant shock. Netaniahu and Putin looked
similar. The Jewish Palestine the Tzar considered a colony of Russia
many years ago and early Zionists had protection from the Russian
Consul. Czernowitz looks, at least in your photos, as a place
Ukrainians are proud of.

The second conexion was the music of the Tango. This is an East Europe
version of it, a calmed down version of the Argentinian one, which is
- having lived in South America - one of the most sensual dance and
music ever created. It reminded me the restaurant Cina in Bucharest,
where people in nice clothes had a "battery" (one bottle of wine and 2
bottles of "sifon" operated with a lever, in a bucket with ice), we
made spritz and ate a "friptura" (Steak) with "Carfofi pai" (chips).
Then the men invited their wives and their friends' wives (which gave
some excitement and a diffuse sexuality) to dance. A woman will never go
alone to visit the rest room. She must be accompanied by a man. I was a
kid and I was sitting right in front of the orchestra most of the time.
Once I saw Sergiu Malagamba the drum player, with his tweed jacket and
shoes "pantofi cu talpa de crep" and tie curved like an arc. we had the
word "Malagambist". His wife was Jewish If he were to be born or
emigrated to Hollywood, he would have had been another Louis Armstrong ,
The same as Mircea Crisan would have been a Bob Hope and Gica Petrescu
un Frank Sinatra.

I got carried away. This is what music does to people, sometime

Miha
