Sorry to disappoint you,but the recruiting district for the 15th was Tarnopol and to a lesser degree Lemberg(Lviv).The only regiment with Czernowitzers was the 41st "Prinz Eugen" infantry. Cornel

=====================================
Dear Hardy, Merle, Jerome etc.
Thanks for posting - that's a really sharp photo of a
Czernowitz regiment in 1915. Is there a list of the soldiers'
names in that picture?.
Actually, I might be over-fantasizing but one of them
closely
resembles a photo of my father Charles Steinhauser who
immigrated to New York from Czernowitz with his parents
and 3 young siblings before World War I..
But the soldier in the Ehpes photo ( seated front row far
right,
holding a cane upright) could be one of my dad's first cousins,
Hermann or Norbert Saltzmann, who were around the same age
as my father. In fact, Dad told me Hermann had been his best
friend in Cz and all three men were ancestors of the Sturm
family
(my grandmother was Augusta (Gussie) Sturm, the Saltzmann
brothers' aunt.
I might be really stretching my imagination but it's worth
a try; so if anyone has an idea of who that soldier might be,
let him or
or step forward and speak now and I shall evermore be silent
(if possible).
Thanks for your help and have a great trip, Merle.
