Hi Hannelore! Next time I am in Wien I will go to the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum(The Military History Museum) and check this ...with the photo! The last time I spoke to them they assured me that no Czernowitzers were in any other unit, only in the 41st Regt. But,maybe in wartime confusion a company of the 41st was transferred to the 15th...I will try and find out!! Cornel

Jerome is right, the Regiment 15 photo is on the Ehpes site since four
years.I have posted it because at the best of my knowledge these
soldiers were from Czernowitz and the photo was taken as a souvenir
before leaving for the front (WWI).
(Does any of you recognize the building in the background ???)
One of the soldiers was my own grandfather and he was for sure from
Czernowitz. So any of you who think you are recognizing a family
member, this may not be only a "fantasy".
To be precise this was the 12 Kompanie of the K u k Infanterie Regiment 15.

I have asked the Austrian State archives if they have a list of the
people of this regiment and the answer was NO.What I know about my
grandfather is that he was made war prisoner close after being on the
front and was sent to Tomsk. This may have been the fate of other of
his companions.
Even though it was a very hard period of his life I may consider that
this way his life was saved. When he came back to Czernowitz, weakened
but alive,he met my grandmother...but this is another story!
