A "FAhnrich" was originally the chap who carried the unit's colours into
battle. Now it means an ensign..a very low-ranking young officer. (derived
from Fahne ..= flag) Cornel

Dear Dana,

A few years ago I followed your good advice.

But I was discouraged when I realized I had very few items to fill in the
forms of the Archives.

I understood they have given the holdings to Poland, Ukraine and probably
to Romania.

Also, I understood that the decorations-list contains only the officers who
received them ( is "Fahnrich" an officer?)

May be I'll try again.
