Ambrosgasse was maybe the most wanted place to live in town.
Situated between Rathaus and Herrengasse there was no better place.
Near the Cathedral, Austriaplatz , Ringplatz and all major schools.
    But who could afford ?
In the spring of 1944 the opportunity came for the Rosenbergs ,
 our neighbors.
Many uptown flats were standing empty, the Jews have not yet returned
from Transnistria. Some never would. The Rumanians administrators fled .
The Rosenbergs decided that this was the opportunity to upgrade.
They spotted a fine flat , 4 rooms Kachel und Parket first floor
standing
    empty on the Ambrosgasse !
The same day they moved up with their children and baggage
much to the envy of the neighbors.
A week passed and whom do we see ?
The Rosenbergs are back with the same carriage and family.
Some Soviet officer family moved in instead.

Today they call it Gogol street.
Good writer Gogol - wrote The Revisor .
Holywood made it into Inspector General with Danny Kaye.
I liked Danny Kaye - but this is different story.
