Czernowitzers...
I'm on the road again, as mostly by motorbike and as mostly bound for Czernowitz. First stop was Deggendorf in Bavaria and I was wondering if a Czernowitzer has ever been in this area. Yes, but involuntarily. Please follow my blog and read the full story - in German, but illustrated and linked - at:

The essentials in brief: Siegfried Rittberg, born in Czernowitz on 11.03.1909. Studied in Vienna philosophy, pharmacy and chemistry. Deported to the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. Liberated by the Soviets on 08.05.1945. Among the liberators was Adele Lindner, who nursed Siegfried back to health. She fell in love with Siegfried, deserted from the Red Army and both Siegfried and Adele came to DP Camp 7 in Deggendorf. Shortly thereafter they got married and succeded to emigrate to Erez Israel. A Happy End!
Yes, but not so for other survivors of the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp, who came to the DP Camp 7 in Deggendorf. They beared the stamp of death and survived only for days, weeks, sometimes months. They are buried on the small, well-kept, but hidden "Jewish Section" of the Deggendorf Cemetery.
Anywhere you go, you'll meet a Czernowitzer, but who - if not this blog - will remind of Siegfried Rittberg's odyssey from Czernowitz via Vienna, Theresienstadt and Deggendorf, to Erez Israel?!
