Dear Edgar,

The area through which you are traveling, all the way from Mukachevo
and Uzhgurod and Sighetu Marmatiei in the north, to Targu Mures
in the south, from Debrecen in the west to Stanislav/Ivano Frankivsk
in the east, was once heavily populated by Jewish people.

Some of them were Hassidim of the Kosover rabbi. When he died
they became Hassidim of the Wiznitzer rabbi and on his advice found
their way to Czernowitz. One set of my great-grandparents, thus ended up
in Czernowitz. Their eldest son, my maternal grandfather, returned to
the area, to visit relatives and study with rabbi Stern of Valea
Viseului.

The area is very, very beautiful.

Edgar, I hope you will ride your motorbike along the"Goldene Bistriza"
and cross into Bukovina through the Prislop pass at "Kirlibaba".
