[sorry about the last one --j.]

Kate, Gerhard, Iris, Mimi, Raanan, Miha, Anny, Lydia, Hardy, et al...

Thank you all so much for your very kind appreciation and let me
add some brief comments on your mails and that backyard photo set:

Lydia: No, Lydia, the old lady at Holovna Street 84 doesn't
speak German, but Polish (!) and of course Russian and Ukrainian.

Hardy: You are right, the sound from the flats and the smell
from the kitchens doesn't come through, but - believe me - it was still
there!

Anny: Sorry, but I don't think that I'll have the opportunity to
visit the backyard of Judengasse 21, but concerning Suceava, I'll see
what I can do.

Miha: You are right, "one never felt alone, but also one never
had any privacy", but the trend goes clearly to privacy, as many
backyards themselves, but even the apartment doors, are secured by
locking systems.

Raanan: Sorry, Raanan, but I don't think that I'll have the
opportunity to visit the backyard of Steingasse 12, but I hope you'll
report on that one to all of us in September.

Mimi: My feeling is, that the (actual) residents have a
love-hate-relationship to their flats with a predominance for love!

Iris: This was just a selection of much more photos, which I
took from the backyards. After my return home I'm going to compile them,
adding the entrance archways, to a slide show and upload it on YouTube.

Gerhard: Exactly, "Holovna Street" stands in Ukrainian for
"Hauptstraße", i. e. back to the roots!

Kate: You are right, I missed 11 Holovna Street for the medal
ranking, it gets a special award! Concerning your tomorrow's visit to
Radautz, I'll come back to you separately by phone and/or mail.

Finally, I'm encouraging each and every one going to Czernowitz,
to take pictures of these unique backyards, as they are belonging to the
"endangered species", construction works are in many cases in progress.

Thank you once again and warmest wishes to all of you!
