Of course you are right, leper is fully contollable/curable these days, but the patients living in Tichilesti got the disease decades ago, as for example "Aunty Ioana" in the ninteenthirties. For them the leprosarium is their residence, rather than a hospital. I think the Romanian medicine is meanwhile up-to-date. There is an interesting report, headlined "Europe's last leper colony lives on", released by BBC News in 2001:
