Dear Mimi,
I know only knoedel made with potatoes.
I remember onions grilled with schmaltz and mixed with mash potatoes to fill it.
Sometimes my aunt filled them with plums or apricot : we eat them with butter and sugar...
No good for diet but good for "souvenirs" !
