Dear Mordecai,
Yes indeed, my grandfather, Shaul-Leib Steinmetz owned a factory
for the making of kosher processed meat and two stores in Czernowitz.
One of the stores was in the building of the Schwartzer Adler,
where there is currently a travel agency. How do you know about it?
My family lost their property in 1940 when Czernowitz became part
of the Soviet Union. During the war the factory was reopened and owned
by a Romanian, who had my father and uncle working for him.
My Great-aunt Rivka was married to a brother of my grandfather.
Thank you for the information about lost property.
I do have my grandmother's will and all the papers about the ownership
of the factory, but if anything comes of this, I will be most
astonished.
Mimi
