A few years ago, Helmut Kusdat from Vienna, who, together with Cecile
Cordon wrote the book "An den Zeiten Ränder" - on the edge of time -,
(with stories and interviews about Czernowitz and the Bukowina), started
collecting funds for the restoration of the Leichenhalle. He brought an
architect from Vienna who made an offer amounting to 500.000! I cannot
remember whether they were dollars or euro, probably euros. Kusdat was
(of course) unable to find such sponsors and gave up the project.
Personally I believe that in the Ukraine it could be done with less money.
Maybe the UNESCO would be willing to help with funding and all that goes
with it. A good suggestion, how does one go about it.
