Subject: RE: [Cz-L] Association for the Assistance to Bukovina Jews
Bruce...
Apart from the fact that I'm still clearing a backlog caused by my recent
journeys, it took me a while to come back to your question, but let's see,
what we've got so far:
The Association for the Assistance to Bukovia Jews [Asociatia pentru
Sprijinirea Evreilor din Bucovina], as per the identity card being offered
on eBay and carried over to our Ehpes.com Blog
http://ehpes.com/blog1/2012/09/20/association-for-the-assistance-to-bukovina-jews/
was one of several associations, established after WW2, in order to
represent interests of the Romanian Holocaust victims of pogroms and
deportations, mainly acting as an interlink to the Federation of Jewish
Communities of Romania and to the Joint Distribution Committee.
That's one of many interesting facts, which I learned from Peter Weber's
most interesting (Romanian) article "The Repatriation of the Deported Jews
from Transnistria and the Question of Their Integration in the Postwar
Romania", released by the Yearbook of "George Baritiu" Institute of History
in Cluj-Napoca for the year 2007. In addition I succeeded to identify the
correspondance of the Association for the Assistance to Bukovia Jews, stored
by the National Archives of Romania. The links to the respective
institutions and the download links to Peter Weber's article and to the
archival inventory are available at the above mentioned posting.
And, dear Bruce, as you will know, I bookmarked these data for my next trip
to Bucharest. Thank you for drawing our attention to the this association.
Warmest wishes to all of you!
Edgar Hauster
