Dear friends,

I'd like to refocus our ongoing discussion thread from "After We Go" to "Before We Go".  Freely adapted from JFK: Ask not what happens "after we go" - ask what you can do "before we go"! Here is one of the most precious options and I'd like to get you enthusiastic about the USC Shoah Foundation Institute - Visual History Archive by drawing your attention to my posting:

http://czernowitz.blogspot.de/2012/10/usc-shoah-foundation-visual-history.html

Between 1994 and 1999 the USC Shoah Foundation Institute interviewed 51,294 survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust in 56 countries and in 32 languages, among those

- 48,968 Jewish survivors, among those
- 343 Jewish survivors from Czernowitz, Sadagora or Radautz, among those
- a number of Ehpes Czernowitz-L Discussion Group members.

Just imagine: 51,294 interviews = 102,588 hours = 4,275 days = 141 months = nearly 12 years of video material, its much more than a treasure chest, it's THE collective memory for the Holocaust! In order to illustrate the potential of the Visual History Archive, I've embedded two full testimonies of

- Moshe Shamir [4:06:37]
- Rachel Huber [2:53:11]

both from Czernowitz to the above mentioned posting. In addition I've excerpted the

- 343 interviewees, who were born in Czernowitz, Sadagura or Radautz

and uploaded the listing to the posting as well. I've identified my grand aunt Melanie Vawga. Whom will you recognize? I'm encouraging you to discover - registration is needed - the  outstanding research opportunities provided by the Visual History Archive, established by Steven Spielberg in 1994.

Warmest wishes to all of you and please share with us the results of your researches!
