Dear Edgar,
What a touching message you sent Mimi!
You opened your heart to all of us.
I am so, so sorry that your family suffered as they did.
Now, knowing this, I can fully understand your intense
dedication to making as much information of all kinds available
to those of us on the Cz list - for which we are enormously
grateful to you.
Thank you over and over again for your excellent work.
Warm regards,
Merle

Subject: [Cz-L] After We Go - Before We Go!
Dear Mimi,
I'm paying my respect in front of you for your willingness to share your
memories with all of us. Your testimony is as good and priceless as any
other of a Jewish Holocaust survivor, regardless of the atrocities he/she
had to suffer.
Your testimony and all others are definitely "worth recording for
posterity"! It was the deeply distressing trauma of my father and my
grandparents, that they survived the Holocaust, while his brother/their son
perished in Auschwitz:

I don't think the USC Shoah Foundation continues to interview more
survivors, but they are digitalizing and preserving this unique video
material - remember, 102,588 hours !!! - for future generations.
BTW, the German partners of the USC Shoah Foundation
are providing - free - transcriptions of most of the interviws, conducted in
German; so I got, for instance, the transcription of interview with Rosa
Roth Zuckemann.
Warmest wishes for now, thank you once again for your mail and have an
amazing weekend!

- quote -
Thank you Edgar for writing to our list about the important work
done by the USC Shoah Foundation Institute - Visual History Archive.
Do you know whether they continue to interview more survivors,
or have stopped the project?
I debated for a long time whether I wanted to be interviewed.
Since I was not deported to Transnistria, I thought that my case
was not really relevant. Eventually I decided to be interviewed.
Even though I had suffered far less than most people, my case
might complete the total picture.
Even if my testimony was not worth recording for posterity,
it was great therapy for me. Now I can read or listen to
talk about the Holocaust and talk about it myself.
I believe that each one of us, as long as we do not find it too
difficult,
should write for our children, grandchildren and posterity in general,
about our lives and the events which shaped them.
I have a brief history of my grandfather's youth in Czernowitz
and the district of Maramures, which he wrote late in life.
Not only does it help me know my grandfather who died when I was
less than three years old, it also gives me a completely new perspective
about Jewish life in Bukovina and Maramures at the end of the 19th-
and beginning of the 20th century.
I wish to encourage everyone to tell their histories, whether
a holocaust survivor or not.
Shabat Shalom,
Mimi
