Taras Shevchenko was a Ukrainian poet and painter.
Actually quite a good painter.
He came from a Serf family and if his statue has any political
connotation, it is anti-Russian.
I still do not read Cyrillic, therefore cannot read what is written
on the banners the people in the photograph are carrying,

In the photograph sent to us by Hardy, there are 10 people participating
in this rally. Of these three are children. Obviously the Svoboda party does
not have many supporters in Chernivtsi.
In the parliamentary elections in 2010, only 1.18% of Chernivtsi voters
voted for Oleh Tyahnybok, the leader of the Svoboda party.
In the Ukraine as a whole, he got 1.43% of the vote.

Let's hope that Hardy is wrong when he compares the Svoboda party's
growth to the Nazi party's in Germany.
