The photograph of the peasants at the market selling earthenware pots,
could have been taken also years later. It still looked like this
when I lived
in Radauti in the summer of 1945.
Earthenware pots were used for boiling milk and storing milk,
sour-milk, etc. The pots for boiling milk were completely encased in
a wire mesh,
similar to chicken wire, which gipsy artisans specialized in
tightening and renewing.
