Does anybody know who is asking for this money? And why only the roof..is
the inside back in Jewish hands???? Cornel

Again the plate asking for donations to fix the leaking roof of the
Groisse Shil on Synagogengasse in Czernowitz.
  What can we learn from it ?
    1. The roof is not holding back water.
    2. There is no money for doing the necessary.
  Somebody cares and steps in.
   The Groisse Shil also called the Alte Shil was founded in the mid 18-
century
  before Independence of the United States.
   Some 250 years ago.
   Since the Jews left it was used by the city as a storage place for
   windows and door prefabs, leased to the Seven day adventists
   and who knows what.
    Maintaining the place was not their priority.
