Re: [Cz-L] czernowitz-l digest: December 11, 2012

An excellent correspondence in today's collection - Mimi, Paul, especially Iosif - eye-opening comments providing some perspective on the town in which I was born but of which I know so little. Only 3,000 Jews less than 200 years ago?  Hardy asked and I do, too, what was the total population of Cz at the time?  And does anyone have any idea of the percentages of "Fromme" Jews and totally unobservant Jews?  And how were we divided economically - the poor, the middle class and the rich?
