Arthur, I agree with Cornel,
Our parents' generation wanted to improve their lives,
in all ways, including dressing well.
There is no virtue, either Jewish or general in wearing dirty shoes,
or not wearing a tie or a jacket.

And because we have been using the word "goy". I wonder
how and in what sense members of this list remember our parents'
generation using it.
In Hebrew this word means "a big nation", one of our forefathers,
I cannot remember which one, was promised by God, "I will make you
into a 'goy gadol'.
In my family, when we used the word "goy" we meant a peasant,
when we used the word "Goyim" we usually meant Christians.
