Mimi,

The mass killing was "rolling process" , as Christian wrote.

It begun at the east front with the Barbarossa Operation, as the Einsatzgruppen followed the Wehrmacht and shut hundreds of thousand Jews, of what is later called " Holocaust by Bullets"
This was the faith of most of the Jews in Bessarabia.
This kind of mass murder did not happen in western Europe. May be it needed some supportive atmosphere from the local population.

It was the same time when the Rumanian Gendarmes marched the north Bukovina Jews (of the soviet occupied territory) to Transnistria.

The "industrial mass Murder", using Zyklon B started only at the beginning of 1942 followed the Wannsee Conference (January 1942) of which the Nazi leaders dealt with the "Final solution to the Jewish question". (before they made experiments with Zyklon B on Soviet POW's)
The Crematoriums were not operating till the beginning of 1943.

Oren

From what I have read, I believe that the expulsion or extermination of the Jews of Germany, was among the earliest plans of Hitler and the Nazis.
As soon as they conquered Poland and Czechoslovakia and realized the number of Jewish people in these countries, they started building extermination camps using the most technically advanced methods of extermination and disposal of the corpses.
