Oh NO, I am not going to quarrel with my Muttersprache!
This mixture of German and Yiddish with a Ukrainian,
or Romanian word thrown in here and there, is my favorite
language. Whenever I meet and have a chance to speak this language
with other Bukowiner, I am in seventh heaven.

By the way: We Bukowiner, were often told that not only did we
not speak proper German,we did not speak proper Yiddish either;
we did not speak like the Litvaks. We said "kim aher" instead of "Kum
aher",
"zei gesind" instead of "sei gesund" and so on.
A few days ago, I had the chance to see a Yiddish movie made in America
in 1937, called "Greeneh Felder". This is a movie of a popular
Yiddish play,
which was also performed by an amateur group in Czernowitz in the
late twenties
or early thirties. My mother was one of the actors and often talked
about this play.
The whole movie was in Bukowiner Yiddish and even though filmed in
New Jersey,
it was filmed on a background of hills and small wooden houses with
straw roofs,
very similar to Bukowina villages.
