Hello to all members of the group. This is my first post and question here.
I am looking for The Maidmans from late 1800-ies. Some of them list as
their place of birth Krlivitz. Krilovitz - that name does exists
inThe Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names. I did not find it on
any map though. Not listed as a shtetl either.
The only relation between Sadgura and Krilovitz I have found in the
book "Passport to Jewish Music: Its History, Traditions, and Culture"
By Irene Heskes. Quote: "Hana nagila (Let us be merry). It was derived
from a Hasidic nigun (tune) sung by the followers of the celebrated
Hasidic leader Rabbi Yisroel (1797-1850) of Sadigora (Krilovitz), also
known as the Rizhiner rebe (rabbi)".
I know that one of the Maidmans lived in Chernovits, had relatives in
Zhvanec and Khotin.
I would appreciate any information on the place of Krilovitz. Is it a
part of Chernovits as Sadgura? Does anyone encountered the name
Maidman there?
L'Shana Tova to all.
Jan Gan
