                       Dear Marion,
Your CZ stay sounds productive and exciting, keep it up.
Thank you for mentioning me in connection with "Blütenlese", Selma's poems.
In his STERN article, Serke refers to me as "eine in den USA lebenden Cousine des Dichters
Paul Celan" without mentioning my name, from whom Hilde Domin received the poems.
             Regards, Bianca

> We passed along the university street and the university where a plate rembembers Joseph Schumpeter who taught in Vienna, Czernowitz and Bonn. And HIlde Domin heard him in Bonn. And she was not only a friend of mine - but the one who brought Selma Merbaum to Germany because she managed to get the journalist Jürgen Serke interested in Selma's story after Bianca Rosenthal had given her Selma's poems Hersch Segal had edited. Serke wrote about Selma in the German magazine "Stern"- and initiated the boom of her poems.
> On we went to Sterngasse where Selma's stepfather used to live, passed along the former "Residenz" which is university today and went to Rapfgasse where Selma had lived as well. Along Franzensgasse down to Bilaergasse - what a sad place so far away from town. What a sad place to fix a plate to preserve Selma's memory: A fence prevents visitors from intruding the plot. If they do three dogs come rushing along. Not too fierce but ever so noisy. We passed Ziegeleigasse where Zvi Yavetz used to wait for Selma because they had their way to school in common. What a long and tiring way uphill - but Selma was good at sports!
> As usual we ended up in Herrengasse where I took some photos of the house where Ilana Shmueli was born. Her maiden name was Liane Schindler. She became famous by her correspondence to Paul Celan. I took photos of Neueweltgasse, too - but unfortunately they have changed the numbers of the houses. Must try again - because Nr 14 today is what used to be the former boy's school on the corner at the end of the street.
> Tonight there was a lovely performance in the theatre: so red and gold its interior as if 1905 was yesterday. A lot of young people came to see Selma Merbaum's life performed by dancers. The message: her poems survived and go on living.
> Tomorrow back to the archives and in the evening a poetic performance of Selma's and Nelly Sachs's poems in the former "Jewisch House". Meridian Festival is approaching...
