Thank you Christian, both for sending us the old description
of the court of rabbi Friedman as well as your own impressions
during the last few years. For me it was very interesting to read
about the former splendor of the court and the general poverty
of the Jews of Sadagora.
In my mother's family the "Sadagerer Rebeh" was despised
as a charlatan and crook, taking advantage of the poor, superstitious
Jews of the area. His conspicuous lavish lifestyle was condemned
and abhorred.
On the other hand, my maternal grandmother, after having had
two or three stillborn children got a talisman from the rabbi and
afterwards had 6 healthy children.
The oldest of these, later in life became a quite conceited person,
about whom my mother said: This is what happens when your birth
is made possible by the "Sadagerer Rebeh".
