Hardy,

Czernowitz industrial glory peaked in the 1970-ies and 80-ies, when
several large modern electronic and computer plants were built in the
southern outskirts of the city. They are coming back to life now with
"Elektronmash" producing state-of-the-art industrial fire alarm
systems and "Kvarts", which used to manufacture microchips and control
devices for the Soviet space program, is making electronic components
for Vokswagen cars.

"Legmash" used to make textile equipment and very popular
"Chernivchanka" knitting machines for hobbyists (they are still
actively sold on the internet:

Some other industries are doing relatively well now, including food
processing, fireplaces and bricks.
