My three children participated in the reading of names of those who died in Tranisitria at the Museum of Tolerance in New York yesterday. There were other readers as well. I am told the turnout was small (no more than 20). There were other readers as well. However, even they (ages 25 and 23) felt it was very meaningful.

A poem by Immanuel Weissglas (1920, Czernowitz - 1979, Bucharest), who survived the Obodovka camp in Transnistria:
BABYLONISCHE KLAGE
English translation:
BABYLONIAN LAMENT
We sat by the waters of Babylon,
By the waters of Bug and complained,
A thousand and a thousand, and twenty years ago, And quarried history Out of water and wind.
Alexander's face glowed in Messopotamian.
Eternity was reflected on Caesar's skull.
Napoleon's cocked hat waved through time.
Far from the roaring hustle,
In the forest of memories
We sat on the stump of love
And stayed embraced,
In the grass, in gas.
Squish, skull, the hellblessed flask -
Steppe wind and Auschwitz ashes.
