Hardy et al...
Beyond all bitterness on the state of the Jewish heritage in Eastern Europe, that I'm sharing with you, there are other, better and more forward-looking options, but requesting "return of stones" or removing them "by force".
I'm drawing your attention to Marla Raucher Osborn's presentation delivered on the occasion of the working seminar "Managing Jewish Immovable Heritage", which I posted at our ehpes.com Blog:
http://ehpes.com/blog1/2013/05/26/managing-jewish-immovable-heritage/
This detailed case study, focussing on the Jewish headstone recovery project in Rohatyn, is an excellent example for a success story, which "could not have been possible without the support of the local (non-Jewish) Ukrainian community of Rohatyn of today." At my posting you'll find additional links to:
• the full JHE conference coverage: http://bit.ly/12Ghf99
• Marla's presentation: http://bit.ly/129vEQ0
• the pictures for Marla's presentation: http://bit.ly/129vVm1
• Marla's essay "What Remains of a Life": http://bit.ly/1amCmQD
As a descendant of Rohatyn Jews (Hauster/Hausthor) and as a friend, thank you so much, dear Marla, for your magnificent engagement, which was - and still is - so vital for this ongoing success story!
