[Cz-L] Finding Family in Czernowitz

First, a warm 'Hallo' to all members of the group trying to find family
in Czernowitz!

I have tried for many years to find out from where my family came, where
they lived, how life was, why they left etc.etc.

I know that my father`s family came from Czernowitz when seeing the
death certificate of my uncle. He committed suicide while being
interrogated by the ZZ in Berlin on the 13th of July 1937. He is buried
on “Der Jüdishe Friedhof Weissensee”. I got his papers and there I saw
that he was born on the 15th of July 1912 in Czernowitz. I knew they
came from the eastern part of Europe, but the saying was Poland. His
German name was Karl Ernst. According to a “myth”? Eastern Jews had to
change their names when settling in Germany. Perhaps this is true.
Karl`s father was named Jacob and his mother Sarah (my grandparents).
Jacob died in Israel, Sarah died in Montevideo, Uruguy. But, on the
Graveyard Weissensee is also my great-grandparents buried. The text on
the gravestone is interesting, it says in German: “ Hier ruht ein alter,
aufrecter und geradsinniger Mann, unser Lehrer, /Rabbiner Jitzchak, Sohn
unserem Lehrer Mordechai/, sein Andenken zum Segen,/Rüber/ (Riber?). Er
starb am 25.5. 1922 im Alter von 64 Jahren. Seine Seele sei eingebunden
in das Buch des Lebens.” This text is in Hebrew, a kind friend has
translated it for me.
 
>From “Stiftung Neue Synagoge Berlin” have I learned that Isak
(Jitzchak) Rüber was born in/Wiznitz/ on the 10th of July 1857. He was a
some sort of tradesman. His wife is Fanny/Feigel Rüber, her maiden name
was /Zucker/. She was born on the 6th of April 1853 in/Zablonow/.
The story of the family is that my grandparents went on foot from
Czernowitz to Berlin around 1913. My grandparents had four children, one
“boy” is still alive, he is almost 100 years by now! He lives in America.

Is there anyone who has come across these names? According to what I
understand, my great-grandfather and his father must have been Rabbi. I
remember my father once mentioned that his father once was a cantor in
the Synagoge. But alas, my father denied answering any questions about
family. My father died some years ago, he is buried in Maintz, Germany.
