Dear Eva...
I think I speak for everyone on our List in applauding your effort to
chronicle the Holocaust in Bukovina for the Museum's educational
history project.
There is a wealth of material on our website:
http://czernowitz.ehpes.com that concerns this history. It is available,
yours for the taking, and is in the public domain. Virtually nothing is
under copyright and that that is, is clearly marked. We ask only that
you attribute what you use to the original poster if possible, or to the
website when not.
If it were I, I would read the 'About Us' section to get an idea of the
scope of our holdings. I think a good 'first stop' would be the
'Stories, Histories & Documents' section. The List's messages, as you
probably realize are archived and searchable by Topic (thread), Author,
Date, etc. There is real historical richness in these posts, but you'll
have to spend the energy to dig it out. The 'Family Histories, Bio's...
section includes Holocaust materials as well.
Other sections I would be looking at are: The Ehpes Database
collection; the Ehpes Photograph collection; Cemeteries, Monuments &
Towns; and the Blog. In the Database section, there is a link to our
'Projects' section. Here you will find the 'Popovici' project, and an
allusion to our 'Bukovina Holocaust Project' which I started when we
found out that in the Museum's nascent stages, history was going to stop
before the holocaust.
I started to pull together those archived posts that concerned the
holocaust and deportations to Transnistria in hopes of constructing a
Bukovina Holocaust Narrative. It never got off the ground. Since 2002
there have been over 21,000 posts to the Czernowitz-L list to sort
through. You can see the magnitude of the task.
I will be pleased to assist you in whichever way I can. I'm sure you
will find others willing to help you and your team in this worthwhile
work as well.
Best regards,
Jerome Schatten - Webmaster for Cz-L
