Dear Eva,

I'm excited on your project and I'm subscribing to Jerome's advice to you, to (re)discover the "hidden treasures" of our website related to the Holocaust history in Bukovina. On the other hand I'm quite sure, that many of our fellow members do have additional documents and photographs on this subject, so as I do:

http://radautz.blogspot.de/2008/01/020548-auschwitz.html

By this letter, dated May 2, 1948, my grandfather Elias Hauster reports to my father Julius Hauster on an information received from A.I.V.G. (Aide aux Israélites Victimes de la Guerre) concerning the fate of his son/my uncle Maximilian Hauster, born on November 26, 1909 in Czernowitz, deported from the Concentration Camp Breendonk in Belgium, after years of imprisonment, to Auschwitz and murdered there. This happened as a consequence to Ion Antonescu's decree to expatriate Romanian Jews abroad, so they became outlawed and victims of the Nazis. The self-reproaches, that my grandfather addressed to himself, being unable to save his son, were an obsession for him till his death, one year later, in 1949.

In addition to the above mentioned letter, I've got the original of the only - handwritten - letter of my uncle Maximilian Hauster, addressed to his father/my grandfather in Czernowitz, as a "cry of desperation" from the Concentration Camp Breendonk, on September 19, 1941.

If you are interested in such testimonies for the Holocaust in Bukowina, I'll be pleased to send high resolution scans of those documents to you and I'm encouraging our group members to assist you for the implementation of your important project.
