Sylvia visits Czernowitz and meets Baruch , a local Jew.
She writes on Facebook:
"I met Baruch while buying apricots at the little market by the bus stop. In
a babble of broken languages (German, Yiddish, Hebrew, Romanian) he tells me
his life story - of marrying his wife of 55 years without knowing each other
because one needed a companion, especially in those days, pledging to be
good to each other and how love grew over time - of the Ghetto,
Transnistria, and other struggles and hardships over the years....how even
afterwards one had to be ashamed to be
Jewish"
Any one of us could easily have been Baruch.
Baruch could have been in Australia or anywhere.
But he stayed and met with Sylvia .
All is written in the stars....
