Hi,Edgar,

Thank you and your dear editorial staff for this daily travel in time during
the last 3 years.

It was quite an adventure.

I have learned a lot about Czernowitz, Romania and the world in those
crucial years of my parents lives.

It was a grandiose idea !

Congratulations,

Irene

Subject: [Cz-L] The Sundown of "Der Tag"!

Czernowitzers...

"Today", i. e. July 21, 1935/2013, after 966 editions over 4 years, we are
facing - with a small tear in the eye - "The Sundown of 'Der Tag'", as
always published at 7 AM Czernowitz local time at:

http://czernowitzdaily.blogspot.de/

The very last article of "Der Tag", headlined "Of my Palestine Journal" by
"Dr. Markus Krämer, Another Notable Czernowitzer" (and above all, Cornel's
uncle),

http://ehpes.com/blog1/2013/07/09/dr-markus-kramer-another-notable-czernowit
zer/

ends with a kind of legacy to all of us:

"About the Bukovinians in Palestine just the following: They are hardworking
people, who climatize themselves and are aware of their calling: to become
one with all those, who are designated to form the new Jewish nation on
ancient ground."

But this most remarkable article starts with an anecdote, which seems to be
another signal from the past: In the year 1920, the author, Dr. Markus
Krämer, strolled, together with the (anglicized) Mr. Winfield, a brother of
Weinfeld, a carpenter from Czernowitz, through Whitechapel in London, when a
marketer called out to him: "Tell to my cousin, Professor Dr. Ephraim
Brenner, not to be so proud being State School Superintendent, and to write
yet again to us!"

Well, Dr. Ephraim Brenner was Hedwig's father in law and who, dear Hedwig,
was his cousin in London in the year 1920? But this very last article of
"Der Tag" reveals much more names of prominent Bukovinians in Palestine in
the nineteen-thirties:

• Harry Reicher from Suceava - Gallej Hajam Café Haifa • Zvi Huber -
Hashomer Hatzair • Nussenbaum - Hashomer Hatzair • Polesiuk - Mishmar HaEmek
• Dr. Pino Salziger - Owner of Coffe Trading House Jerusalem • Dr. Salziger
- Doctor • Dr. Druckmann from Frumoasa - Director of the University X-ray
Laboratory • Stark from Cezernowitz - Doctor • Stark from Cezernowitz -
Engineer • Grünberg - Student • Klier - Engineer and President of the
[Bukovinians] Association in Palestine • Brettschneider - Member of the
Board • Morgenstern - Member of the Board • Miss Hasenfratz - Member of the
Board • Dr. Josef Ebner - Member of the Board • Paehl - Breakfast Café on
Montefiore Street • Tänzer - Nizza Café on Nachlath Benjaminah • Dr. Philipp
Fleischer - Lawyer • Miss Sperber, daughter of Srul Sperber, sister of Dr.
J. Sperber from Kotzman - Teacher in Petah Tikvah • Moses Abisch from
Storojinet - Owner of the Soap Factory in Akko • Rippl - House owner •
Schaff - Director • Dankner from Radauti • Schwarzmann - Master builder •
Oskar Schächter - Representative for Bukovina and Poland • B. Fränkel -
Former editor of the "Abend"

And that's all after four years? Yes and no! Yes, because "Der Tag" is
irrevocably out - no, because we'll have some special editions covering "The
Remains of 'Der Tag'", starting as early as tomorrow!
