And so writes student Theodor to his adoration on Dec 29 1898:
 
"Much esteemed Miss.
  With pleasure I take the opportunity offered by the change
 of years to extend my sincerest and heartiest good luck wishes.
    May the New Year be richer in happier moments than
  the passing year.
    Receive, much esteemed Miss the assurance of my esteem
        Theodor, student ."
    Where has all that chivalry gone?
