Berti, you recite and enjoy Russian poetry .
  I learned Russian too but these were not the sounds we grew up with.
    My lullabies were German.
   Maybe if I stayed there for 20 more years.
    In the tundras of Siberia.

Autumn in Czernowitz brought back some lines of Pushkin.

True - the most positive fact about the Russians was that the Red Army
saved us from death, but let us not forget some other good things they had
among the all too known bad ones.

These lines impressed me in 1944 even more than Schiller or Eminescu
so here a reminder
of Russian seen autumn:

Уж небо осенью дышало,
Уж реже солнышко блистало.
Короче становился день,
Лесов таинственная сень
С печальным шумом обнажалась,
Ложился на поля туман,
Гусей крикливых караван
Тянулся к югу: приближалась

Довольно скучная пора;
Стоял ноябрь уж у двора.

(1823--1831) отрывок из Евгений Онегин)

 Free translation:

Already sky breathes autumn,
And the sun shines less.
Day gets shorter,
and forest's mysterious shadows
appear as a sad sound,
fog lays on the field,
geese's noisy caravan
trails to the south, a pretty
boring time comes in;
November stood before us.
