I am surprised, because there is a Chasidic court of Nadvorna, and as we
have seen on other cases the Chasidim are known to take care of such
problems. Despite the fact that I can't be thankful enough for the actions
of the various volunteer groups there is no place to turn to them to solve
this problem. I wouldn't want to start another discussion on the subject
how the local and state authorities should feel themselves committed to the
task of preserving old Jewish sites (that includes the case of the Tempel
and the "Groisse Shil").

...unless you are prepared to face a most depressing experience by visiting
the Nadvirna Jewish Cemetery. Civil records indicate, that Hausthor's (our
initial family name) lived in Nadvirna, a good reason to visit the cemetery.
Before me lay hundreds of partially artistic headstones, each representing a
Jewish community in Galicia, the community of my - and perhaps your -
ancestors too, that had been annihilated during the Holocaust. I have
visited and photgraphed a huge number of Jewish cemeteries in Eastern Europe
during the last decade, but never ever I've seen a cemetery in such a
deplorable condition.

Where was the Nadvirna Municipality, where was the Ukrainian Jewish
Community, where the inhabitants of Nadvirna, where the volunteers, where
was just a single righteous human being to save the Nadvirna Jewish Cemetery
from the certain death? As I'm starting to hold anyone, who is crossing my
path, responsible for this cultural outrage, it's high time to leave!
